  • Labs, Auditorium, Classrooms, Offices
  • Foundations Bid Package
  • Skylite Atrium
  • State of the Art Building Technology

Endowed by University of Tennessee alumnus Min Kao, developer of the Garmin GPS system, this project required that its site be literally built with terraced tieback walls on the steep eastern slope of the Hill. This was accomplished with an early bid package as construction documents were completed. The six level steel and concrete facility houses research laboratories and offices surrounding a six story skylighted atrium, as well as a computer facility and classroom wing with large tiered teaching spaces. A power distribution simulation center is being constructed on the ground floor to develop technologies for the improvement of the national electric grid. The building is designed for LEED certification. This project was a joint venture with Bullock, Smith and Partners.
